Julia’s birthday party was last weekend. We had fourteen girls in our home for a DIY craft party. Julia and I headed to Hobby Lobby and she chose three crafts that her school friends would enjoy – making t-shirts, decorating frames, and decorating jewelry boxes. We also bought new fabric markers, washi tape, stickers, and new markers just for the party. New supplies are so fun, aren’t they?!

Since most of the party budget went into the crafts, snacks were kept very basic. For the cupcakes, Julia and I brainstormed and came up with Sunkist summertime cupcakes!

These were so easy and a fresh twist on boxed vanilla cupcakes.

I simply replaced the 1 cup of water in the directions on the box with 1 cup of Sunkist 10 I purchased at Safeway.

(You could do this with any of the four 10 calorie choices – 7 UP Ten, Sunkist Ten, A&W Ten and Canada Dry Ten, but we thought the Sunkist would be perfectly summery!)

Of course I had to sample at least one before the girls arrived, and they were delicious! Riley kept sneaking them and calling them his orange muffins.

It was such a great party. It’s hard to believe that she is 14. Her friends were so polite and so proud of all their creations! I love having her parties here, so that I can get to know her friends a little better. I love seeing them interact with each other. It gives me a little glimpse of who she is becoming, and I love what I see!

I also like them being able to see our home – to see how it is run – to see how it isn’t perfect, but it is full of love. I like them to see that side of Julia, too.

I think next time, I’d add some Sunkist 10 into the frosting to give it even more of the flavor!
