Captain Marvel – Review by FanGirl and Catholic Feminist

Disclaimer: I was invited to a complimentary media screening of Marvel Studios CAPTAIN MARVEL.

On Monday, I had the pleasure of being the coolest mom in the galaxy. I surprised Nate and picked him up a few minutes early from school to head to see Captain Marvel. We are huge Marvel fans and have been looking forward to seeing the newest installment.

Marvel introduces another gap-filling origin story into the lineup! The movie is full of perfect references to the Marvel Universe. You get to see a young Nick Fury, one of my favorite Marvel characters, pre-eyepatch

The storyline and action have a great pace throughout the movie and the soundtrack kept this very young GenX-er incredibly pumped through the entire movie! I remember wanting the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack as soon as the movie was over, and this was no different.

Carol Danvers is a strong, loyal, spunky, feisty, perfect addition to the Marvel Universe.

Were there any elements that offended me as a Catholic feminist? No.

Now for the important questions: Would I take the other kids to see it?

Julia (18) would absolutely love it. She loves following the MARVEL universe.

Riley (8) is too young to see the movie. The cursing and violence in the movie is not appropriate for him.

From the studio: Set in the 1990s, Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that follows the journey of Carol Danvers as she becomes one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. While a galactic war between two alien races reaches Earth, Danvers finds herself and a small cadre of allies at the center of the maelstrom.

And, as always, stay for the credits. It’s the rule in the Marvel Universe.
