A few weeks ago, Hilary invited me into her home for a Fresh48 session. Lucy had just been born and was fresh and new and wide eyed.

When I arrived, it was just Hilary, Lucy, and her older sister. The boys had all gone on a walk to the park. We spent a few minutes getting to know each other and we fell into a beautiful conversation that wandered around adoption, faith, siblings, motherhood, and transitions.

First, I noticed her home. It was full of beautiful simplicity. My eye was drawn from one special vignette to another. The purposefulness of what you saw was peaceful and happy.

I noticed how she spoke to her children. She spoke with full attention, kindness, gentleness, firmness, and grace.

Hilary’s children looked at her with hearts full of love. You could tell they felt safe and heard and loved.

I truly wish every child on earth could experience a mother’s love like hers.

Hilary, thank you for inviting me into your home. In the short time that I was there, I learned so much that I will remember and apply to my own motherhood journey. May God bless you and your family!
