Blueberry Oatmeal Breakfast

This year, Julia has to be at her carpool pick up by 7:05 am. That means in the morning, there is not a lot of time for breakfast. She is so great about eating a good breakfast before she goes off to school and I want her to keep up that good habit. Have you seen all of the excitement about meals in a jar? You can find ideas and recipes  in magazines and on Pinterest. I thought that would be a fun option to try, so I headed out to Smart and Final to pick up some ingredients.

Blueberry Oatmeal Breakfast

Julia loves oatmeal and blueberries, so this was my cast of characters for the recipe. The recipe I found to base my creation off of called for chia seeds, but I substituted flax seeds. I think she will like the consistency better. It also called for maple syrup. I decided to go without for this first batch and see how she likes it.

I put the breakfast in a jar together while I was cooking dinner. It took me less than five minutes and now I don’t have to worry about Julia’s breakfast tomorrow! This was so much easier that I thought it would be.

I can see this being a great gift for the entire carpool and teachers!

Feel free to print out the recipe and let me know what you think! I might be biased, but I think the layered ingredients are beautiful. I know it will make me smile in the morning.

  1. I love how you can stretch ingredients in bulk by making these meals in a jar. I am pinning this breakfast idea for sure!

    • Jenna, I agree! And it is so great to have it all done the night before. It is making our mornings much, much easier.

  2. Wow, the blueberries and oatmeal really are beautiful together! This would be lovely for a ladies brunch, too!

  5. Were you able to use more than one day in advance? Make on Sunday night for the week?

    • Hi! I made three on Sunday and used them Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. On Wednesday the oats began to be a little too soggy. I hope that helps!

  6. I was looking for an idea to eat my daily oats & flax-seed without the having to “cook” them before eating (hot). And blueberries with yogurt to top them mmmm Yuuummmy.Since it is now the 3rd week in the 100’s degrees weather in southern Cali…
    Love it, love it.
    Thanks

  7. Blueberries in my oatmeal are my favorite combination. I never would have thought of this! (Personally, I find them even better with a dash of cinnamon and pinch of ginger, and maybe even a few walnuts added in for crunch. Like cobbler for breakfast.)

  8. Just my luck, I have all of the ingredients except the yogurt! GRR! Off to the store tomorrow, Oatmeal and blueberries are my favorite! I think these would be great for a snack, too – maybe in a smaller portion?

    • Oh yes! You could use the smaller jars for snack portions – great idea!

  9. I make mine but not in a jar…. 1/2 cup old fashioned oats 1/2 cup milk. 1/2 cup Apple sauce hand full of Raisins a dash of cinnamon mix well put in fridge enjoy in the morning
