This year, Julia has to be at her carpool pick up by 7:05 am. That means in the morning, there is not a lot of time for breakfast. She is so great about eating a good breakfast before she goes off to school and I want her to keep up that good habit. Have you seen all of the excitement about meals in a jar? You can find ideas and recipes in magazines and on Pinterest. I thought that would be a fun option to try, so I headed out to Smart and Final to pick up some ingredients.
Julia loves oatmeal and blueberries, so this was my cast of characters for the recipe. The recipe I found to base my creation off of called for chia seeds, but I substituted flax seeds. I think she will like the consistency better. It also called for maple syrup. I decided to go without for this first batch and see how she likes it.
I put the breakfast in a jar together while I was cooking dinner. It took me less than five minutes and now I don’t have to worry about Julia’s breakfast tomorrow! This was so much easier that I thought it would be.
I can see this being a great gift for the entire carpool and teachers!
Feel free to print out the recipe and let me know what you think! I might be biased, but I think the layered ingredients are beautiful. I know it will make me smile in the morning.
Have you ever tried a breakfast in a jar?! If so, I’d love to hear your recipes!
