The fall weather is finally here! It is so wonderful. I think the entire Valley of the Sun breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Riley and I have been enjoying the mornings outside.

Last month, the shadow of a hummingbird caught my eye.  I was sitting in Ashley’s living room and the silhouette of a hummingbird kept catching my eye. There was a sweet hummingbird on the porch eavesdropping on our conversation.

I have always loved hummingbirds. The first time I can clearly remember seeing hummingbirds was in Colorado.

Each summer, we took one week and drove up to Winter Park. We would hike, pan for gold, tour every battlefield between Texas and kingdom come, and ride the cog train to Pikes Peak. I miss those vacations. My brother and I would play Frisbee and check out the dams the beavers built.

Where was I? Oh – hummingbirds!

So, I was telling mom about the hummingbirds and she bought me a feeder while she was out. We hung it from the lemon tree and within a day, I was standing at my kitchen sink, grinning ear to ear, and watching hummingbirds.

Apparently, this is how happy I get when I catch one in my camera.

Do you have a favorite bird memory? I’d love to hear!

Have a great day, friends!

  1. He must have captured a great photo!

I remember summers at my grandmothers house. She always had dozens of colorful birds at her feeders, and she would quiz us about what kind we thought they were… then we would pull out the bird watchers book and hunt through to see if we were right.

  2. So he’s a mimic? I’m sure it’s all from admiration. we haven’t had many hummingbirds this year, but I’ve seen a few. None caught with my camera so far in 2013. My favorite bird moment so far might be the photos and peeks I caught this spring of a male and female cardinal “kissing.” It was actually the papa feeding the daughter, but it was just precious and made me happy for hours afterward.

    • Oh wow! That is so sweet! We haven’t had many cardinals this year. It must be the unusual weather this year.
