The Homeless…

If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:15-17

This week I have been blessed.

My dear friend, Cindy over at Straddling the Gap, organized a time for us to go pass out food and blessing bags in downtown Phoenix.

We had over 30 bags ready to go and they were gone in 2 and 1/2 minutes. 2  and 1/2 minutes. That’s it.

My heart was broken. Why didn’t we bring more? We were so sure that this was plenty.

I am always surprised at the people you see that are homeless. They look just like you and me – mothers with young children, sweet and smiley.

If you saw them anywhere else, you would not have any idea that they do not have a safe and warm place to sleep. Ugh.

Then, on Tuesday, I was able to join friends at Children’s First Academy in Tempe.

From their website:

Children First Academy – Tempe, a Sequoia Ranch school and part of Sequoia Schools, is a school for homeless and underprivileged children in the East Valley. We go to extraordinary lengths to fill the needs of homeless children in Arizona.

My friends brought lunch and Christmas presents to share with the children.

We ate lunch together and talked about what they want to be when they grow up. There are many, many professional soccer players in the works. 😉

After lunch, we decorated hats and danced. And laughed. And danced.

It was the most fun I’ve had all week.

Please keep the homeless in your prayers this season – and every season.

With love,
