The Nutcracker and the Four Realms – Review as a former ballerina

Disclaimer: I sent a copy of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms for review. It is my honor and privilege to share my thoughts on Disney with you. #DisneyPartner #DisneySMMC

From the Studio: Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffman’s classic tale and the beloved ballet “The Nutcracker”, the film carries audiences along with 14-year-old Clara to a magical, mysterious world with breathtaking performances by Misty Copeland plus sweets, snowflakes, soldiers, scurrying mice… and no shortage of surprises. The stunning feature film provides adventure for the whole family and is destined to become an annual holiday classic.

Mackenzie Foy is Clara and Jayden Fowara Knight is Phillip in Disney’s THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS.

On January 29, 2019, Disney’s Nutcracker and The Four Realms releases on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Tonight, we bundled up on the couch for a family movie night. Since my three youngest are 7, 3, and 1, I had the remote control in my hand just in case, due to the PG rating.

I absolutely loved having a chance to tell them memories of growing up as a ballerina. I have so many memories of auditions, waiting for the cast list to be taped to the office door, rehearsals, and shows that kept my busy over the Christmas holidays.

It is a long standing tradition for the girls in our family to see a local performance of The Nutcracker every year. I could not wait to see the movie!

The visual elements were absolutely stunning. Mackenzie Foy was perfectly cast as Clara. I truly loved the “Four Realms” re-imagining. The story was familiar and new with a wonderful balance.

The portrayal of the Mice King was incredibly clever.

Having the opportunity to watch Misty Copeland dance on screen was incredible. She is such a beautiful talent!

The caution I would tell parents is the following:

  • The word ‘damn’ is used
  • God’s name is taken in vain

The peril was not too intense for my family. My children love The Chronicles of Narnia and I would compare the peril to that level.

I’d love to hear what you think! The movie is released today!

I also have a few free printables from the studio if you are a Nutcracker fan like I am! I love to print these out and keep these handy for car trips and rainy days:
