Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— for your love is more delightful than wine. –
Song of Solomon 1:2
Brian and I haven’t always been as in love as we are today. It honestly seems like it gets better each and every day.
Before we fall asleep, we usually lay there trying to catch up on the day. Last Friday, he took me to the Desert Botanical Gardens for my birthday. I know that isn’t “his thing”. I know that he only did it as a gift. I asked him that night why he does special things like that for me?
My eyes were completely opened to the beauty of our marriage.
He explained that He truly believes that one person must love completely and selflessly, no matter what. And he doesn’t mind being that person.
My mind started racing.
Wait a second… I’m the selfless one. I’m the one who is the giver…
Um, nope.
What do we eat for dinner? If it were his choice, we’d eat Thai or Chinese food every night. (We rarely eat that).
Where do we go on dates? Goodwill, Starbucks… definitely not his choice.
Did I make this conversation about me? Yup.
See? Selfish.
How did I get so lucky in love?
So, my challenge to you would be – can you be that to him?
Can you make it all about him? I am going to try.

He sounds very nice! You are lucky to have each other!
Angel, I am so blessed. We were close friends, then dated for five years.
This is part of the reason I started Operation 1950’s Hot Housewife on my blog. My husband is amazing and I want to be a better listener and wife. Our marriage is incredible, but I never want to be complacent. Cheers to you for concentrating on HIM.
Thank you, Heather! I love that name – Operation 1950’s Hot Housewife!
