Murphy is the sweetest dog I’ve ever met. I’m not just saying that because he’s mine.

When Brian and the kids finally wore me down enough to go look at dogs, I was nervous. I didn’t want to get a dog – not because I don’t like dogs – but because I get so attached to them.

We had a dog once, when I was about eleven. His name was Josiah. I loved him to pieces. He was so sweet. Mom and dad had him trained to never step on the carpet. He would sit at the edge of the kitchen and put just his paws on the carpet and watch television with my brother and I. One day, after a few years, he bit my cousin. We gave Josiah away and I was heartbroken. I never wanted another dog because I never wanted wanted to be that sad again.

After years of pleading and thousands of promises to walk, feed, and care for a dog, my family talked me into “just looking” at a poodle rescue event. The kids had read a book about what kinds of dogs were perfect for families with children and slight allergies.

I found a dog that was cute and walked him around. I turned around and up walked Brian, Julia, and Nate with the cutest little guy. I knew we were going home with him just from the looks on their faces. We learned that he was the littlest one of his siblings. He was on the shy and submissive side – perfect for us!

He’s been with us three years and he is perfect. No really. I want to keep him healthy and happy and loved. We recently started the  The Purina One 28 Day Challenge. I can definitely see an increased level in his activity, even with the desert heat we have.
