Mom has been here for the past week, helping me catch up with laundry and housework. She’s been a lifesaver and the house almost looks back to normal. (Thank you, mom!).
On Friday, we took Riley to a play-date at a local farm with my MOPS group. Mom calmly motioned me over and let me know she’d just been stung by a bee! She was totally calm and just asked if I could pull out the stinger. It had flown up her pants, stung her, and was stuck – aagh! I pulled her waist and the bee flew out and hit me in the face. Crazy. She is just fine. It was just a little more excitement than we expected.
On Saturday, mom took the kids and I shopping and left me with arm full maternity clothes to try on. She took the kids to the toy aisles and left me to have a few minutes to myself. It was so nice. I found a few sweaters, a skirt, and a cute denim shirt. As I put on the denim shirt, a bat fell out of the sleeve. It was all I could do not to scream my head off. It looked dead, so I scrambled to get my clothes.
All I could think was, “Get dressed first. Get dressed.” Then, the bat started crawling. I was about to lose it. I got dressed opened the door and asked someone to come over. As they tried to capture it took off flying.
See? This is why I don’t try on clothes, people. It never goes well. I’m back to ordering on-line.
The best part was when I was telling my story to mom, the bat flew by, as if to say, “see you later!”.
So, mom and I are going to take it easy this week. Hopefully there are no bears, beets, or battle stars in our future.

I. would. have. died.
Also. You may want to call your OB and make sure you don’t need a medication since you touched the clothing where the bat was. You probably already thought to do that, but just in case. My husband had a student come in contact with a bat at school once and they had to take preventative measures.
Joy – I hadn’t thought about that… was his student bit or just came in contact? Thanks!
Oh my Lord. You have WAY more self control than I do. And can we talk about the fact that there was a bat IN THE CLOTHES!!!!
Meg, right?! That was crazy.
I wish a bat flew out of my sleeve! I love bats!
Target will never be the same. From now on poke the clothes, shake them out, lay them on the counter and check for lumps and bumps, and then take them to the dressing room.
