When Brian and I were first married, we were much more of a pb&j couple than a night out on the town couple. There were months that a trip for Julia to the playground at Taco Bell was a very big deal ~ and we usually shared a meal. We have come a long way since then and have graduated (sometimes) from Taco Bell to Boston Market 🙂
Last week, Nate was being very quiet playing upstairs. I wandered up and found him playing with this…

Six years ago my mom knew how upset I was Nate’s first Christmas… because we couldn’t afford presents for him or Julia. It seemed so big at the time. So, she and dad salvaged this old play / train table from a friend. They drove it up from Houston in dad’s pickup and Brian and I stayed up late Christmas Eve drawing and coloring our town (Denton, Texas). That was our church in the upper right hand corner.
(Well, Brian mostly drew and I mostly colored – I am NOT much of an artist! But I do make some pretty rainbows, daisies and balloons!).
Some of the best memories I have are of us just staring out, taking it slow, making ends meet… So, for anyone out there in that place in life. Hang in there. Cling to each other and to the promises He gives. Treat one another with respect and kindness. The rewards unfold beautifully each day.
