The past few mornings, I haven’t been able to find Riley when it is time to leave for school. As I look around, I hear noise from the guestroom. I find him huddled in bed with daddy’s iPad watching cartoons. When my mom was here, he would sneak into her room at the crack of dawn, crawl into bed and ask her to turn on his cartoons. Bless her heart, some mornings I’m pretty sure it was before 6am.
I love the memories the kids make with their grandparents – sometimes they are just the silliest little things that they will remember and make into a tradition.
When I was in 5th grade, my grandmother came to live with us for a while. I’m sure there are tons of memories that she would expect me to have, but what I remember is running around the house with nerf guns laughing hysterically. If I remember correctly, a lamp was broken – I won’t name whose fault that was. 🙂
I remember her taking us to this little Mexican restaurant down the road called Monterrey House. I remember her allowing me to order cheese enchiladas and dessert. She listened to all of our silly jokes over dinner and we had an amazing time. I felt so grown up. It was such a treat.
It helps me to remember that I don’t have to take them to a parade everyday. I don’t have to take them to a museum. I don’t have to take them to the ice cream shop.
I just need to find ways to laugh with them. I need to find little ways to give them that extra attention and laugh at their silliness.
Have a great day, friends!

I love this. My boys do the same thing with their grandma. For some reason cartoons in grandma’s bed are better. My favorite grandma memory is washing dishes. She didn’t have a dish washer back then so we always got to wear gloves and splash in the sink with her. I hate stacking the dish washer, but still enjoy hand washing dishes, especially at her house.
Kelly, what a wonderful memory! Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing that sweet story!
I am so blessed. Precious times and memories with all my babies. Tucking them in and telling stories, making cookies, and snowmen. pajama parties and secrets.
