Tips for being a great confirmation sponsor

My tips for being a great sponsor and selecting meaningful confirmation gifts.

This year, I am a small group leader for 8th graders at our middle school youth group. It has been such a special year. I have a really amazing group. They are just awesome kids and ask the most amazing questions that challenge and stretch me.

One of my sweet kiddos asked me to be their confirmation sponsor. When I protested and told them that it is very possible I will be in the hospital giving birth that day, they reassured me that it didn’t matter – they wanted my lifelong prayers. (Yes, I broke into a sobbing mess and agreed right away.).

I’ve been looking for the perfect gift and laughed when I realized it was right there in front of me. Jesus Calling is one of my absolute favorite books. It is amazing how timely the devotionals are.

You may remember the story I shared about the day we all came down with the flu and missed our adoption meeting. It was Jesus Calling that gently reminded me to trust.

And look at what message is on the actual confirmation date? Trust!

Coincidence? Never.

So I gave my sweet eighth grader Jesus Calling. I wanted her to ease comfortably into the idea of spending time with Him each day. This is such a special time in her life and I wanted her to have a gift that would remind her of this precious time.

    I really enjoy your tips for confirmation! The idea of keeping a journal is very cool- so many times we go through a spiritual experience and then forget what we learned or how we felt… it’s good to have a reminder when hard times come!
