For the first time in our marriage, we will be at home for Christmas. As I write this, mom, dad, and my brother are in El Paso, Texas making the trip here.
We have always spent the holidays at someone else’s home. This year, it’s been even more precious to make our home something beautiful and magical. I want the joy and peace of advent to really permeate our home. It has meant giving up a few things so that I have my sanity (and kind words for all).
You won’t find any gingerbread houses or garlands strung beautifully. You won’t find my home on any Instagram home tour. You won’t find my home on any Pinterest page. (And I’m so excited for you if you are! That is amazing and I’ve certainly enjoyed looking at all the beautiful homes.) But, that is not my gift. That is not my talent. The older I get, the more ok I am with that. A few years ago, you would have found me striving, and in turn – short with everyone around me.
This year, I’ve chosen to do the things that mean Christmas to my heart. I’ve chosen to do the things that bring my family peace, and not stress.
You’ll find a kid friendly Christmas tree, a few nativity scenes, Christmas music, and a very yummy Christmas dinner menu just waiting to be prepared.
You’ll see hands that have served. You’ll hear voices that have sung. You’ll find hearts full of love – so thankful for the two littles that have brought much laughter and awe to this precious season.
I hope your Christmas week is beautiful!
