Our MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) table has been blessed with three new babies! One of my favorite things about this group, is that everyone makes an effort to really help out when baby comes home. I know it can be an overwhelming transition whether it is your first baby or your fifth baby. Every extra little bit of help is a Godsend!
Sometimes the hardest thing can be figuring out how to help. You might ask, “Hey, what can I do?” And you are usually given an answer that sounds something like, “Oh, we are fine!”. But you know… you KNOW that they could use a little help. You’ve been there and you remember being so thankful for anyone that took that step and helped in a tangible way.
I’d love to share with you a few practical tips of how to help out the sleepy, sweet mama.
Our table helps out by coordinating meals for the first few weeks after baby is home from the hospital. We use an online program that everyone can log in to and sign up for the meal they would like to bring. You can pick the date from a list of available dates. The program tells you how many people to cook for, their address, and any allergies or special instructions for the family. It takes all of the guesswork or anxiety out of cooking for someone else. It even sends you a reminder so that you don’t forget to take dinner!
I love to take a little something extra over with dinner. Taking a little gift along with dinner is always a fun surprise! The mama isn’t expecting it and you know she will smile whenever she sees it. It will remind her of a very special time in her life. I would share these with my cousin. She is a new mom and very happy. She was told that she would never be able to get pregnant after trying for years. After she gave up on the idea of getting pregnant she became pregnant and is very excited.
I would probably use this on my 6 month old son. He takes at least two baths a day due as I wash him off in the tub after dirty diapers instead of using wipes. He hasn’t had any diaper rash since doing this.
