Every year my college roommates and I try to get together. With two continents and nineteen children between us, it can be difficult for everyone to come. This year, my best friend Jen was on home leave from Africa. She was going to be traveling through Arizona for two days, and we could see her! Kelly and I planned a quick, wonderful getaway. Kelly flew to Phoenix and we drove together with little Leo up to Flagstaff.
The car trip has never gone more quickly. I don’t think we took a breath between stories and tears and laughter.
Jen and I have know each other since 7th grade, when she moved to Texas from Chicago and her mom decided we should be friends. It was instant. I didn’t meet Kelly until my freshman year of high school, but she has known Brian since 1st grade. She is the most devout person I’ve ever met. Her love for our Savior inspires everyone around her.

I was so nervous about our drive north. It is monsoon season and we had had some flash floods that were making me very anxious. We said a little prayer as we started off and I watched the clouds form and move away over and over. We did not see one drop of rain the entire ride. I decided to be incredibly (for me) spontaneous and take Kelly on a side trip to Sedona to see the Chapel of the Holy Cross.
There were so many little moments that came together perfectly during this trip, reminding me that God takes care of every little detail.

I cannot describe how lovely this place is. Please promise me you’ll come to Arizona to see it, ok?
They just finished the installation of a 33′ cross in the sanctuary, and it will take your breath away.

Kelly and I shared a room and woke up the next day giddy to see Jen.

Our girl trips are always this random collage of talking, eating, and sightseeing. It’s basically heaven.
We decided on touring the Riordan Mansion. It is so beautiful and so full of history.

We spent the afternoon in downtown and met Jen’s family for dinner. It was so sweet to see her kids. I hadn’t seen Alex, her youngest, since he was only a few weeks old. I had flown up to Vienna, VA to help after he was born. I’m pretty sure the baby snuggles and seeing Jen helped me more than I helped her!
Oh I love these girls. They accept me as I am, where I am, and they encourage me to keep running the race. They remind me what is important and that I’m not alone. My wish is that you have people that do the same for you.
Until next time.
