I’ll pray for you… (continued)

A few weeks ago, I shared with you this verse that I keep thinking about:

“And don’t say anything you don’t mean. This counsel is embedded deep in our traditions. You only make things worse when you lay down a smoke screen of pious talk, saying, ‘I’ll pray for you,’ and never doing it, or saying, ‘God be with you,’ and not meaning it. You don’t make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious, it becomes less true. Just say ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong. – Matthew 5:33-37

I thought after I’d written the post, the tug on my heart would lessen and I’d move on to the next thing that I should work on.

Instead, I started thinking about a way to really write down the prayer requests that others have. I want to honestly spend time in prayer over these things instead of just counting on my memory.

When I write, “I’ll pray for you”, on FaceBook, I want to really do it. When I say, “I’ll pray for you”, in the grocery store, I need to do it.

When the kids painted their giving jars, I sat down and painted my own jar.

And now – when I say I will pray for you – I will write it down on a slip of paper, and pray for you every night for a week.

Have a great week!
