Just a few more months.

We are entering those years.

The years that moms are usually pretty scared of.

I can tell you with absolute certainty, I have so much to learn.

She is beautiful and kind, funny and smart.

There is so much I love about her and so much I want to tell her.

I’m open.

If you have hints ~ what to do, what not to do, feel free to let me know.

This was “my verse” in high school.

I can remember reading it over and over, burning it into my memory.

8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. 11 They must turn from evil and do good;  they must seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

Tonight, I will lift her up in prayer.

I will pray that I am the mother she needs.

I will pray that I am the strong shoulder and the kind word at the right time.

I will pray that I am the example He wants me to be.

I will pray that I am overshadowed by what He wants me to teach her.

  1. I’m not a mother, but as a woman that was once 11, my only advice for a girl of that age is to tell them the importance of deciding who is a true friend and who is not. This is a lesson I learned the hard way and in some respect am still learning.

  2. My daughter just turned 11 on February 2. I read this with tears streaming down my face. It is beautiful. I will print this and put it on my nightstand. So well said.

  3. Thank you all so much for your kind comments. Theresa, this is such great advice. You are so very right. ‘Libsmom00’ I am so very honored that you related to this post. You are both so beautiful!

  4. Oh my goodness, 11, really. You are an amazing mom. And since your 8 years ahead of me, I know you’ll have lots of good tips for me when we get there! Your honest expression is so moving and brings so many memories for me, as well as thoughts for the future. Thinking of you and J.
