How would we act if we really believed?

When I visited the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City, I stood outside taking pictures before Mass on Saturday evening. I heard runners approaching from my right and looked up to make sure I wasn’t in their way. I saw a crowd of shiny green uniforms running towards me. I had heard that the US Women’s soccer team was playing the Mexico Women’s soccer team, and I smiled as I realized that I was catching a glimpse of the celebrities. I humbly watched as trainers, coaches, and players stopped and genuflected in front of the Cathedral.

From a full on run to a respectful kneel, they stopped and acknowledged Who they were passing.

I thought about the days I drop off and pick up the kids at church – for choir or youth group. Do I acknowledge Who I am driving by? Nope. Most days, I’m busy fussing at someone about something.

From now on, I will think of my Savior. I will think of Who I am driving by when I pull in and out of the parking lot, doing taxi duty.

I will take the time to genuflect and whisper thank you to the runners who reminded me.

¡Viva Cristo Rey!

  1. Beautiful photos and reminder. Thank you.

  2. I just discovered this blog and your photography, and oh my goodness. What a talent you’ve been given! I browsed through the “family” photos several times, enjoying how the backgrounds and subjects work together to make dynamic, pleasing, magnificent compositions. Yes, I know ‘magnificent’ is a big word. But I’m a big fan!

With a prayer for you, your family, and especially your pregnancy.

    • Nancy, thank you for stopping by! I’m so glad you like the pictures. Thank you for the prayers. They are very much appreciated!

  3. That cathedral is so pretty! I bet it is easier to get in a state of reverence when you are in such a beautiful place. A lot of modern churches just look like office buildings and if you are going there for an everyday reason, it can be easy to forget that you are someplace special!

  4. While I am not a religious person or a Believer as someone would label the word, I do respect the faith of others and always take pause out of respect. Very much appreciate this post. For me it doesn’t have to be about belief, but it is very much about respect. (Followed you from SITS Sharefest).

    • Heather, thank you so much for stopping by. Your comment is beautiful. I appreciate that.

  5. Kate, I came across your blog this morning after you posted in BYW class. I tried to email you but the address is not recognized. Can you email me your correct email address? [I copied and pasted it and I typed it in five time and it keeps rejecting it]. Thanks!
