Today, five years ago, we started our journey to Arizona from Texas.
We had this perfect two year plan. Brian would get two years as a Quality Engineering Director under his belt, we’d move back to Denton, Texas and live happily ever after.

And here we are five years later.
God has a funny sense of humor sometimes, doesn’t He?
These five years have held so many amazing moments:
- the beginning of this blog
- the start of a career in photography
- singing backup for Mallary Hope
- the beginning of my etsy shop
- recording a few songs with a friend
- sister-in-laws getting married
- leaving my day job
- my brother getting married
- launched Create + Focus

It’s held sad moments, too:
- more miscarriages, including the twins
- job loss

But today, as I think about the significance of five years, I can’t help but think that it all led up to that little fifth pair of shoes.
Tiny, perfect feet filling the hole God knew in my heart.
As I type this, Riley is sitting at the kitchen table coloring with Julia and Nate. It is like he has always been here.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. –Â Ecclesiastes 3:11
Happy five years!
God is good, All the time! And all the time, God is good!
Hugs,
Kate

Beautiful just beautiful.
I don’t think plans ever work out exactly the way you intended, but it normally seems to be for the best 🙂
I also love those pictures. Especially the first one. Me and Andy were out walking a few days ago and we found a whole tree full of similar flowers, only they were pink with bright yellow pollen on the tips. I loved them 🙂

Thinking over all that has happened with you, I wonder that it’s “only” 5 years. Riley wasn’t even born yet when you planned to return, so of course you had to stick around for him.
Love the butterfly photos (of course) and the shoes. Great idea for a different kind of family photo.
Love you. Praying for more healing, blessing, and good God-surprises in the next 5, wherever they take you.
