Becoming Foster Parents

On August 28th, we officially put our house on the market. Brian had accepted a job in Texas and we were planning to move mid-December. Our sweet relator, Emily, was hosting an open house for us on August 29th, so we headed north to Cottonwood, Arizona, in hopes that the house would sell quickly.

That afternoon we received a call that would change us forever. Could we foster an infant coming out of the NICU? No, we didn’t need to cancel our trip. No, they would just call us when we needed to be at the hospital. At the last minute, we decided to take an extra car just in case.

The evening of the 28th, the case manager called and asked if they could complete our home study. We had done this years ago to be cleared for adoption, but our home study had now expired. I awkwardly called our relator and asked if she could walk the case manager through our home. The call was met with gentle grace and tender understanding. I face timed our case manager and answered questions as Emily walked from room to room with her.

Our gut feel to take an extra car was right and I drove home the next morning to meet ‘love bug’ as she was released from the NICU.

She was released into my care at 4pm and I fell in love instantly.

I’ve written more about it on Instagram, but wanted to document it here so that I don’t forget the first moments and the beautiful symphony He is writing.
