This week has been all about Riley – but I think that’s probably the way 4 year old birthdays should be, huh?!
Look at how he just stares at the candles. So, so sweet.

Every year, we put streamers on the bedroom door of the birthday kiddo. It’s my thing.
It’s not a big deal and it only takes a few minutes, but I want them to wake up knowing that they are being celebrated!
I didn’t see Riley walk out of his room that morning, but Julia did. She recounted the story to Brian on the way to school…
Riley opened the door and stood there wide-eyed. He rubbed his eyes and smiled and walked through the streamers.
Julia told the girls we carpool with that it’s a tradition in our home!
So many times, I have wondered if the kids define anything we do as a tradition.
My cooking is usually outstanding only when I follow a recipe exactly.
My baking is inspired by other blogs I read.
My crafts often look like a two year tried to finish it for me.
My home is not decorated like a magazine.
But He, the Creator of the Universe, made me!
My kids are loved and encouraged. I am who God made me to be. I am not Martha or June or Betty. I am just Katie. He made me to smile at everyone. He made me to say “yes” a little too much. He made me to sing. He gave me eyes that see beauty. He gave me a sensitive heart that wants to find the good in everyone. He made me to cry when I hear my daughter emptying the dishwasher without being asked. He gave me intuition to feel when another person needs a little extra love.
Today, I will be content with who I am. I will not allow my heart to be restless. I will rest in Him and smile.
“You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in you.” – St. Augustine
Tomorrow will be another day and another challenge, but today, can I encourage you just to rest? You are loved.

It is just beautiful. He feels more and more’ through and through yours forever.
