Today’s saint was St. Anthony of Padua! (Thank you, Shannon Hards!)
We began the day with our song “Waves of Mercy, Waves of Grace”. We are starting to get the moves down, and it is certainly a great way to shake off the grumpies.
Then, I read an email from Shannon about why he loved St. Anthony of Padua. Shannon is so very special to our family. He just retired as the Director of Youth Ministry at our church. Nate serves on the middle school leadership team and is very active in the high school youth group.
Shannon and his wife, Karen, are also the reason we met our sweet Riley. They are Riley’s godparents and prayer warriors.
When Shannon and Karen travel to take the youth on retreat, we watch their beautiful German Shepherd, Jedi. The kids love the Hards family. So, when I told the kids who chose today’s saint, they were all ears.
We watched a cartoon about St. Anthony. (This is working very well, by the way – it gives me a little time to set up the craft so I don’t lose their attention).

Then, we did hide and seek! We talked about asking for St. Anthony to intercede for us when we lose something and the kids loved playing ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ while looking for three hidden animals that they traded for ice cream!
We ended with our song and by then it was lunch time. It’s only day 2, but I feel great about deciding to go for it and doing our own VBS this year.
