Today, I drove my mom to the airport, so that she could return home. For the past few weeks, she has been my extra pair of hands while I traveled to Corpus Christi for my grandmother’s funeral.
She helped as I juggled Riley, Mary Alice, a flight to Houston, a car trip to Corpus Christi and back, and a flight back to Phoenix. (Whew! Just typing that makes me tired.) I didn’t even mention the stomach bug that knocked Brian and I out the day after she and dad arrived. She did this all with a smile on her face and steady encouragement for me.
She sweetly smiled from the back row as I gave my grandmother’s eulogy. She nodded with understanding as I chased little ones in the airport to get the wiggles out before we boarded the plane. She bought water after we got through security so that Mary Alice would have bottles during the flight. I truly don’t know what I would have done without her. She is a calm presence.
Not once did she complain or make me feel guilty.
When we returned to Phoenix this package was waiting for me and we ooh’ed and aah’ed as we opened each item. I told her I was just writing a review, but was secretly giddy knowing that I was going to give her the collection.
Her mug says, “All the love a heart can hold”.
That completely sums up our relationship. The older I get and the older my children get, the more clearly I see her sacrifices and love. My heart could burst with appreciation for her.
She is such a beautiful role model for me. I was so glad to be able to give her a few items that so beautifully capture those little precious moments.

I had been telling everyone that just when you thought your heart couldn’t hold any more love God introduced you to a new passage in life and expanded your heart ten times its size. My mom is absolutely the biggest dork around. She taught us all to read, write, and count before we were 3 because she always thought up quirky games. She is the best thing that could happen to anyone because she is just that awesome.
