Honey

How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Psalm 119:103.

Day 15:

Today’s walk was at noon. Riley, Mary Alice, Sebastian, and I walked down to see the horses. The older two were at home, knee deep in online learning.

We live a few blocks from an active ranch. This time of year, the runs are always full of horses. As we turned the corner from our street towards the ranch, the air smelled like honey. We all stood there and took a deep breath. I thought of the stories I had read about the virus, and I was grateful for the ability to take a deep breath.

We looked around and admired the chalk drawings everyone has done on the sidewalks. My friend’s son drew an earth and wrote ‘What a Wonderful World.’ This was the song Brian and I danced to as the last song at our reception. It immediately brought back many beautiful memories of our wedding.

The past few days, I’ve realized that we are in this for the long haul.

Unlike years passed, when my planner has been full of cute stickers and Washi tape, telling me when our next adventure is, my planner is empty. The days in front of us are a blank slate.

It is up to me to pace the future with grace, excitement, and the promise of tomorrow.
