We’ve all said it – haven’t we.
“Hey, I’ll pray for you”
We write it on Facebook posts, we say it to friends at the grocery store…
But do we do it? Or is it empty promises?
“And don’t say anything you don’t mean. This counsel is embedded deep in our traditions. You only make things worse when you lay down a smoke screen of pious talk, saying, ‘I’ll pray for you,’ and never doing it, or saying, ‘God be with you,’ and not meaning it. You don’t make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious, it becomes less true. Just say ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong. – Matthew 5:33-37
I had no idea that that this is said in scripture. It’s just a little down from Salt and Light. (::cue Godspell – You are the Light of the World::) It would help if I’d keep reading, huh?!
So this week, let’s do it.
When we say “I’ll pray for you” – let’s write it down. Really, really pray for each other. OK?! OK.
Hugs,
K

love!
I’m glad you posted this. I’ve definitely started to do a better job of watching when I say this and not saying if I know I won’t follow through. I think we all need this reminder and I thank you for sharing it! Be blessed!
