I have a little secret – I’m not the best phone friend. When we become friends in real life, that is probably one of the very first things I will tell you. I’m not great at calling people. I’m not even great at answering the phone when people call. But my mom and grandma – they are my very special exceptions. I am so thankful when a phone plan has Unlimited Talk Text and Data/Web.

I think my aversion to the phone comes from my very first job out of college. I worked in customer support for software for automobile dealerships. Every-time the phone rang, someone was upset – either their financial statement was wrong, or they loaded their paychecks upside down in the printer, or their cup holder was broken. (Yes – I had the phone call that they broke their cup-holder – what you and I might call the disk drive).

My mom and grandma have their own special ringtone. When they call, they know that I can have a three year old screaming, a dog barking, and the dishwasher running – and they don’t mind. They just want to talk and catch up on the day. I talk to my mom almost daily. She really is my biggest cheerleader. I look forward to those calls. Sometimes they are just a few minutes – sometimes they are over an hour. When I hang up, I feel refreshed and ready to tackle the next thing.

I hope that one day, Julia and I can share the same conversations and that I can encourage her and be her cheerleader! Now that she has her own phone with Walmart Family Mobile, that day is just a little closer.

When she calls me from a babysitting job with a question, I am honored that I am the one she is asking advice from. I make sure to pick up that call every single time.

I love sending letters, the good, old fashioned way! But for those times that I just need to hear mom’s voice, I’m so thankful for unlimited plans!
