Disclosure: I was given a copy of Jesus Calling by Family Christian. I’m so excited about that because I’ll be able to pass on that copy to a dear friend!
This book has a very special place in my heart. In January 2013, Brian and I were scheduled to have our first meeting with an adoption agency. I was so disappointed when we weren’t able to attend that meeting because flu had invaded out home. I pulled out Jesus Calling that day and read the devotional.
This quote brought so much peace and reassurance to me that day:
Much, much stress results from your wanting to make things
happen before their times have come. One of the main ways I assert My
sovereignty is in the timing of events. If you want to stay close to Me and do
things My way, ask Me to show you the path forward moment by moment. Instead of
dashing headlong toward your goal, let Me set the pace. Slow down, and enjoy
the journey in My presence.
Little did we know that one month later, we would learn of sweet Riley. There was no need to go to that meeting. There was no need to get in line with that agency, when another family would benefit from our meeting time slot.
It’s so amazing how God’s plan works. I was so sure that this was unjust and unfair. Didn’t He know that we were ready to help? We were finally trusting and obeying, but now we were sick? He knew. He knew all along. One day I will learn that His plan is always best. One day I will stop trying to do everything in my timing and I will surrender all.
He knew we would going to learn of Riley very soon.
I’m so thankful for devotionals that truly speak to your heart, especially in your time of need.
This one stays near my kitchen, so that I walk past it every day.
Family Christian is having a wonderful sale right now, and Jesus Calling is included in that sale.
Have a blessed weekend!
