Learning and listening in the silence

We are here. And we are good.

Brian, the kids, and I are still physically distancing. This forced exile has been a beautiful learning for my heart. Where is my focus? Where is my attention? Where does my joy come from?

We are here. And we are good.

The first few weeks were spent preparing, adjusting, learning, and deciding whose voice would lead us through this desert.

We are here. And we are good.

The next few weeks, I watched as people fasted and prayed for God to bring relief and healing. And He came. He came in the storm. He ripped the bandaid off of our eyes about racism and child trafficking and pornography and charity to our neighbor and care for the most vulnerable.

We are here. And we need good.

In our silence and our sudden availableness, a light is shining on the muck and grime in every corner of our world. The light is blinding. It’s overwhelming when we look and find the disgusting pile of filth that we’ve walked past and scrolled past.

We are here. Is there still good?

As we clean out one corner, the dust keeps blowing in. We find more stains and more filth.

We are here. Where is the good?

Oh friends. Keep sweeping, keep scrubbing. Let the quiet and distance of this time be a time for healing, checking on neighbors that we’ve made excuses not to know, and letting go of what anyone else thinks.

We are here. And He is still good.

Call Him by name. He wants to know you. He created you and you are beautiful. He is not gone. He is doing a mighty work right now in the world. You are the voices that are crying for justice. You are the hands that are helping the lonely. You are the feet that are finding the forgotten.

We are here. And we are good.

Philippians 4:8 ” Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. ”
