This afternoon went something like this…
Take a little nap and wake up smiling and reminding myself to tell you that Julia and I sang together at church today. It was so fun and I will remember it always.
The day digressed very quickly. Very quickly.
So, if you need to feel better about your mothering skills or just need to laugh at someone else or a second, please keep reading.
We were getting ready to head to the neighborhood block party at 5 pm. I was trying to get Murphy on his leash and Riley on a scooter so that we could head over. Nate and his friend asked if they could go on ahead. Julia was already there running the kids center.
Riley, Murphy, and I started off down the street to meet everyone at the block party. I rounded the corner and Nate was coming back my way. He told me that he and his friend had gotten separated and he wasn’t sure where his friend was.
In the next two minutes and seventeen seconds the following happened:
- I ran around the block party twice like a chicken with my head cut off screaming his name.
- His name happens to be Christian, which Brian pointed out is probably a strange thing to run around a group full of people screaming somewhat randomly.
- Nate took a corner too fast on his scooter, trying to find his friend, and has a big ole gash covering his knee.
- I was walking down the road holding Murphy with one hand and supporting Nate with the other when my phone rang and it was the lost little one’s father.
Yes, everything was fine. Nate’s friend had been found and all was ok – Praise be to God.
Tonight, there is still a pit in my stomach just thinking about how quickly everything happened.
But I’m thankful. I’m thankful for a son who truly had concern for a friend. I’m thankful for friends who showed me absolute grace with me as I explained what happened.
So before you go nominating me for mother of the year, I offer this as exhibit A.
Have a super week!
