The Nutcracker is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Julia and I dress up and have a girls day out. Every year, we eat a delicious meal and walk to our seats excitedly. We sit in awe of the familiar story of Clara and hold our breath when the Sugar Plum Fairy dances.

Last week, Mary Alice and I were invited to a sneak peak of The Phoenix Ballet Nutcracker showcase. This was her very first experience with the ballet. She is only two and one half, and she had the same reaction I have. Her eyes grew wide and her world stood still as costumes and music and twirls told a story.

As she walked passed the mirror to the next room with our seats, I wondered if someday she might be dancing in front of that mirror. She held her dalmatians, Spotty and Fluffy, so tightly and rested her hand on my knee. She would sigh with delight whenever the dancers leapt in front of her.

The dancers were wonderful. They were so kind and gracious with our requests for pictures and hugs.
