The one where I want to do all the things…

I have a new niece! Lily was born a few weeks ago and she has stolen all of our hearts! She is the first girl born since Julia, so you can imagine that there is a lot of making and shopping happening around here.

Remember with the outlaws were living with us? Well, my mother-in-law whipped up this little ol’ quilt. Amazing.

You quilters… wow. Just picking out the fabric to coordinate is enough to send my hyperventilating in a corner in JoAnns. How do you do it? How do you see it?

This is when I go into spaz mode. I decide I want to be a quilter. I let my mother-in-law leave the sewing machine in the dining room. Because I have decided. I will learn to sew. That bobbin won’t scare me any more.

Didn’t I go to Craft Weekend? Um, yes. didn’t I make a rockin’ apron? yup. That is the only time in my life I have successfully sewn anything. I made Jams in 7th grade. For the final, we had to wear them to school. I had one leg that was above my knee and one leg that was below my knee. So… that was awesome.

Anyways.

Do you do that? Do you want to do all the things, all of the time? Here is my list:

  1. be a famous backup singer
  2. write a book of poetry
  3. make a rainbow layer cake that does not look like a leprechaun sat on it
  4. paint the inside of my house the correct shade of gray
  5. save all of the children everywhere
  6. have children that stay in bed all night long
  7. be amazing at zumba
  8. have my photography published in Arizona Highways
  9. be the best mom to my kids – and have all other kids tell them stories of my awesomeness
  10. be a quilter

I keep adding to my list. It’s as if I see something amazing and say, “yes, I can absolutely do that, too. add it to the list”

I have friends that are focused. They have clear tunnel vision. I kinda think that makes them better at their craft because they are not spazzing out about doing all the things, all the time.

So tell me, which one are you? Do you focus? Or do you like to do all the things, all the time?

Either way, I’m glad you are here!

Hugs,

Kate

  1. COngratulations to your family on the new baby girl! And yes, I do have many things on my list of things that, in my imagination, I will rock at as soon as I give them a try. I want to learn to play the drums and the guitar, I want to learn Spanish AND sign language AND Italian, I want to write a best selling memoir, and yes, I want to learn how to sew!

  2. Hi 5, Kate: I´m just like you! I wanna do a zillion things at a time: dance, play with kiddos, practice photography, learn italian, watch movies, cook something good, finish one (or four) book. Piece of cake!
On the other hand, I could never (I mean n-e-v-e-r) sew as your mother in law. I´m terrible at it… Don´t know how to start doing it! She does beautiful things (and i`m pretty sure you will be doing it too really soon)!!! Congrats to you both!
That´s the funny part of life: we are so similar and so different, at the same time!
