Picnics – just because

Very soon, it will be eleventy million degrees here. We are soaking up all of the picnic dinners we can.

There is something amazing about eating outside. We sit around a little while longer. We talk and laugh a little louder. We dance to the country music daddy puts on the radio. We put our heads in each other’s laps and look up at the sky as the starts start to pop out.

We watch the airplanes and talk about where we think they are going. We talk about where we would go if we were on a plane.

I hear their hopes and dreams and remind myself that I have the privilege of living life beside these precious people.

It may have been a long day. I may have asked for a little too much help around the house. I may have asked for one too many trips to the trash bins. I may have impatiently waited for them to finish the game they were in the middle of. But they forgive me and we leave it all outside.

The harsh words, rolled eyes, and sighs evaporate into the dusk and we go inside together, ready to start a new day.
