Praying or talking to myself?

Have you ever heard a talk that moves you many times a day?

This past Sunday, a question was asked – “when you pray, do you have a conversation? Do you talk and listen, like a real conversation? Or do you find yourself just talking to yourself after a while.

I can tell you that I sat there, convinced that I had no idea what Father Fred was talking about. I was sure that I was praying correctly.

Instead, this week, I have found myself in many times like this…

  1. Great song on the radio.
  2. Give praise for something wonderful.
  3. Mind wanders into something like this. “Dear Father, please help so and so. The other day they were so upset about such and such. You know, a few years ago, they really hurt my feeling about that thing. I can’t believe they did that. I should have told them what I really felt. But you know… And on and on and on.

That is not prayer.

That is a childish conversation with myself.

I am going to be more careful when I pray.

I am going to pay attention to where my mind wanders.

I hope I can encourage you to do the same.

Much love friends!
