Once upon a time, it was October.
After a business law exam, which I was sure I did not do well on, Brian met me in the parking lot walking back to my dorm. He gave me a hug and asked if he could take me to lunch. He drove me to a beautiful park. He opened his trunk and had McDonalds, sparkling apple cider, a blanket, and cups.
We walked over to group of willow trees and spread out our lunch. After lunch was finished, we laid down on the blanket, looking up at the willow trees. Brian asked me to go through life with him. It wasn’t a proposal – not yet. He asked if we could go through college together. He asked if I would stay by his side as he healed from the past and prepared for the future.
That was 19 years ago today.
I really like October.
