Puerto Penasco, Mexico

On St. Valentine’s Day, we left town in the morning and drove south to what we call Rocky Point, Mexico. The town’s name is Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. I’ve been told that this is Arizona’s beach, where the desert dwellers go to relax and enjoy the water.

This trip meant that I had to get my passport. (One thing off of my bucket list!). I was so excited the day I got the passport in the mail. I felt giddy and adventurous.

I was a little disappointed when we crossed the border and no one stamped my passport. But, looking back – this is actually a good thing. There is a hassle free zone all the way to Puerto Peñasco, which means that you are treated like a welcome guest.

The kids were excited about the thought of swimming in the beautiful blue Sea of Cortez and staying in a luxurious resort. When we were leaving home, a dear friend named Maria excitedly told us that the food was “just wonderful”. We were all looking forward to the fresh seafood and new flavors! We arrived at Princesa De Peñasco around 4pm and headed to our room to unpack. When we opened the door, I held my breath. I wasn’t sure what to expect.

I had looked the property over and over on the internet, but to see it in person was beyond my imagination! We had a stunning fifth-floor view of the ocean. Looking around the room, we were shocked to see that not only was there a spacious first floor with plenty of room for our family, but there was also a master bedroom loft upstairs with another spectacular view of the ocean. I felt like I had won a grand prize for a drawing we didn’t think to enter and a view of paradise that we didn’t deserve. 504E, our home for the weekend, wasn’t just a room, but a lifestyle. We could have stayed for months or years.

St. Valentine’s Day night, we ate close to our resort, at a wonderful place called The Hut.

The seafood was unlike any you could get in Arizona and the Mexican dishes made us feel like we were exploring a new continent for the first time. We took a sunset stroll on the beach, finding shells and watching horses gallop along. At that moment, we knew we wanted to get up with the sun and enjoy all that Princesa De Peñasco had to offer.

To be continued…
