Springtime and the backyard

This time around, I’m home.

With Julia and Nate, I worked outside of the home. With Riley, I get the privilege of hanging out with him all day. My days look so different that they used to. I’m still just as scattered and feel like I can’t quite get everything done. (Who makes up that list of everything anyways?) But I think I enjoy my days even more.

Julia drew beautiful chalk art in the backyard over the weekend and Riley has been “helping it” each day. Finding him knee deep in the dirt makes me happy. He loves helping me garden.

Last week, we got very brave and bought another tree for the backyard. We have a lemon and a tangello tree, and now we have added a peach tree! The following Thursday I was excited to tell Lylah and Joy what I had done – and they quickly reminded me that peach trees actually need another peach tree in proximity to cross pollinate with.

Oops. So, now I have plans to head back to the nursery soon. I’m actually pretty excited about planting another tree. The idea of feeding my family out of the backyard is slowly becoming a little more real.

Happy spring everyone!

  1. Riley is so cute. I love his beautiful hair! It would be fun to bbe able to grow as much of your own food as possible. My mom did that when we were little. Last summer I tried to grow tomatoes, but I only got enough for, maybe, one salad.

    • Angel, I am trying to grow strawberries – but they have totally stalled out. They were growing so well, but then they just stopped 🙂 I still have a ton of learning to do!

  2. just beautiful .

  3. Wonderful! 🙂
