Last September, Brian and I took Julia to purchase her first phone.

I had always been adamantly against her having a phone, but we had a wonderful discussion about responsibilities and expectations. Julia was babysitting more and more. Many families do not have land lines, which left her babysitting without a phone. We decided that she had to have a phone for this reason alone. Being in charge of little ones means being able to call for help if needed.

We sat down as a family and set up clear rules and guidelines about when and how the phone would be used. We used Becca’s cell phone contract for kids as a template.

Last October, Walmart’s Family Mobile asked me to touch base and see how Julia was liking it.

Here we are six months later, and the big question is – are we still using the plan, or have we cancelled it?

We are still with it! It has been perfect for us. It is the perfect starter phone. A few weeks ago, she thought she lost her phone and we were so relieved that it was an affordable phone that we weren’t overly concerned about replacement.

As you can see, we found it!

We have had no issues with service. It came in very handy at Disneyland!

The price is right – We went with the talk & text; no web functions yet.

Is there someone special that you would love to stay in touch with, but they don’t have a phone? This would be a great gift for all of the holidays coming out – Mother’s Day, graduation, Father’s Day!

I know there are many high schoolers celebrating 8th grade promotions soon. This would be the perfect surprise gift to show them that you believe they are turning into responsible young men and women!
