SwimWays: International Learn To Swim Day

Here in the desert, it is time to jump in the pool! The weather is warm and the sky is blue. I’m so thankful for our pool days. When we swim, the kids sleep better and get all their wiggles out.

SwimWays sent over their new Paw Patrol Swim Trainer for Sebastian to try to celebrate International Learn To Swim Day!

Getting him to put it on was a cinch, because he was so excited to show us all the characters. The Paw Patrol Swim Trainer is Swim Step 2 in the SwimWays Swim Step Program. Better yet, tt will increase your child’s safety in the water and is US Coast Guard approved!

This year, we are working on teaching him to wait on the stairs until an adult is with him. He is doing a great job!

Sebastian waited so patiently to have his turn with Julia. All the kids are thrilled to have her home after being away at college. Bless her heart, I don’t think they have left her alone for two seconds. She is such a great sport about it!

In Arizona, we may live in the desert, but there are pools in many backyards. It is so important for me to teach my little ones to swim and be safe around the water.

For our family, this means the following:

  • We have a lock on our pool gate. This lock uses a word to open it, not a key. Mary Alice is very tall for her age, and I was concerned that she would be able to figure out a key. The combination of letters makes it much harder for her to open.
  • We only go swimming with the little ones when at least two swimmers are present. It is too difficult for me to take two beginning swimmers in the water without an extra pair of hands.
  • Sebastian must be in a safety device of some sort at all times.

This will be the third year that we have celebrated National Learn to Swim Day with SwimWays!

It was founded in 2012 and is dedicated to educating parents and children about water safety and the benefits of learning how to swim. This year, SwimWays is going global and the name will be changed to International Learn to Swim Day!
