This summer has been amazing! Julia is 14, Nate is 11, and Riley is 3. Juila and Nate are now old enough to help me make family dinners and desserts. We started off with the desserts – cookies, cakes, and cupcakes. I wanted them to see how much fun you could have cooking and baking for the family. They loved watching their dad try something they made and smile! Today, I tackled one of our family favorites – Chicken Parmesan – with Julia.

As we walked through Walmart this morning, I talked to Julia about the recipe and how it would work. We talked about drying the chicken before you bread it and using a ziplock bag if you don’t want to get your hands dirty. It is so fun to pass on little secrets that I remember my grandmother, mother, and aunts telling me.

We picked up all of the ingredients we needed and we found the Heinz Classico Family Favorites right on the aisle labeled spaghetti sauce.

At fourteen, Julia is old enough to follow the recipe by herself with just a little supervision with the oven. She could probably do it completely by herself, but I’m still a little nervous.

The boys set the table and we had a delicious lunch! There are no leftovers today and that is just fine with me!

I made you a little printable just in case you’d like to start working with your kids in the kitchen!
