Teaching Kids Philanthropy Through Crafts {Little Loving Hands}

Disclosure: I received a Little Loving Hands kit to review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

It’s always fun to get a package in the mail! Even Riley knows that when we get a package, there might be something special inside for him!

Imagine receiving a package, and inside was the opportunity to bring joy to a child in need.

From Lily at Little Loving Hands:

As a mother of 2, I was in search of a way to have my young children involved in giving back to the community. I wasn’t able to find much given the age restrictions of most volunteer opportunities. So, I set up Little Loving Hands.

Little Loving Hands provides pre-packaged children craft kits where the end product is used to contribute towards supporting a philanthropic cause. Our mission is to provide a fun and educational method for parents and caretakers to engage children in learning about the importance of being kind and giving back to others. Within each kit, we provide not only the materials for the project that is sent back to a charity when done, but also documents and other fun items to reinforce what the children are working on and how they are helping others.

Julia opened the box and read the instructions. We were to make a ‘Search and Seek Activity Bag’ for The Children’s Inn at NIH.

These are fun little bags that can be carried around and stored easily. Tiny items are hidden inside the bag of beans and the goal is to find them! The bag comes with a card telling you what to look for.

Nate jumped right in and started stitching the bag. Riley had lots of good questions. He wanted to know why there were children in a hospital and why they needed toys. These are conversations that we want to have with our children, as caring mothers. But we rarely have the opportunity or courage to begin, with our fast-paced, full-schedule, hurry-up life.

Riley helped me decide which items should be glued to the game card. Of course he chose the bouncy ball and penny first. The kit had everything we needed to make the craft, except scissors. It even came with a prepaid envelope for the donation.

We can’t wait to take it to the post office tomorrow after school. Riley wanted me to wait for him so that he could send it to the kids that need toys (as he put it).

Be sure to watch their video for more information on their kits!
