What Troops Want in Their Care Packages

Looking for some military care package ideas? It may be challenging, but I have some ideas of what troops want in their care packages

(Picture from 2014. As we arrived in Texas to celebrate Christmas with our family, my cousin was leaving to serve in our armed forces. We think of him and his brother everyday and are so very thankful for their service.)

It’s time to get those care packages ready for the holidays! Two of my cousins serve in the military and I want to be sure that we send something special for them to open. As a family, we discuss often how they are true heroes. They’ve given everything to protect our freedoms. It is such an honor to know them and know of the sacrifices they make so that I can live protected and free.

After talking to his mom, I learned there were a few things that he really needs. I headed to Walmart and bought the items for a perfect care package.

I love to include a combination of the following:

Handwritten notes

I had my two older kids write notes and jokes on index cards that we could hide inside what we were sending.

If your child feels comfortable writing something encouraging, great! Maybe they don’t, and it’s completely okay to have them write jokes or stories about what is going on in their lives. Let them have control over what they are writing, and they are much more willing to jump in and contribute to the package.

Snacks

If you are sending food,  be sure to wrap the food in plastic bags. If it melts or spills, you don’t want it ruining the other contents of the care package.

Something sentimental

I included a Christmas picture of the kids. I know he will love seeing how much they’ve grown! Last time we saw each other, I was expecting Mary Alice, so I’m excited for him to see how much she looks like our grandmother.

The kids loved hiding the messages inside everything we sent. They used Scotch® Tape with Free Dispenser to be sure that their messages stayed exactly where they wanted them to.

I can’t wait for him to find all of his little surprises tucked away.

Do you have any care package tips that I need to know?! I’d love to hear them!
