Today, I snuck out to the grocery store with Baby Alex.
I felt very proud of myself… navigating a new town in a car that was not mine. Awesome +1.
We walked into the grocery store.
Magical. I walked slowly and purposefully, careful not to wake him.
I peeked down every aisle just to see if there was anything that I thought we just had to have.
It reminded me so much of walking through the grocery store with Julia and Nate when they were babies. At that time, it was really my only field trip. I remember taking my time then, too. I cherished the well wishes and smiles of strangers. I appreciated the open doors and extra hands that were offered.
It was so fun to try and remember what snacks Jen liked and didn’t like. When I found the ice cream aisle I chose two perfectly small containers of heaven. Mint Chocolate Chip for her and Double Fudge Brownie for me. I still remember.
We let ourselves get swept up into the rush, sometimes it is nice to be reminded to slow down.
I like how children do that to us… they remind us to look around and see something else other than ourselves.
I hope you have a wonderful day!
Kate

I miss you girls with orange soda and oreos.
How sweet. I had almost the same experience. I took my great nephew grocery shopping for the first time (he’s 2 mos. old) and what an experience. I forgot how much fun it was to take a little one out for the day. He was so sweet and we walked the aisles and I talked to him, not caring how silly I Iooked having a conversation with an infant. I remember those days with my girls, who are now 16 and 21! OK, we bought ice cream there too, how crazy is that? Glad you had a good day, thanks for sharing!
thank you for the mint choclate chip ice cream (and all the other treats too!) you know me so well…
