Welcome home…

Kate Eschbach-4

I know many of you are settling back in to routine after the holidays. It can be hectic and crazy, but good just to be home.

My mind is still racing after the holidays. Today, I found two voice-mails from my grandfather that I had saved on my phone. I listened to them about 50 times.

The first was on my birthday last year. He said, “Hello Katie? Well, this is the old man. Hope your day is fine. Tell that Brian hello for me. You picked a good one. Well, goodbye.”

The second one was from the day we finalized Riley’s adoption. He said, “Hello Katie? This is the old man. You and that Brian did a good thing. Julia and Nate are fine children and I know Riley will be just fine too. Well, goodbye.”

Imagine a thick Texas accent and a slow, friendly candor.

The day we had the “see you in heaven” visit with grandpa, Riley asked the most amazing question when we walked up to the casket. He said, “momma, is he breakable?” I leaned over and told him, “Not anymore.”

Don’t you wonder where little ones get their questions? Oh, I’m sure I’m making more our of it than he meant, but I’ll never forget that. I was able to look at my littlest and tell him that my grandfather is not breakable any more. He is with Jesus now in heaven and he is praying for all of us.

Can you imagine what it was like for him to walk through those gates? I mean – wow.

What a welcome home he must have had!
