When Calls the Heart | Giveaway

My beautiful Julia. This past summer, we had the best time watching old shows together. I spent a lot of time in the recliner in our living room, nursing and rocking Mary Alice to sleep. Julia would joyfully make cookies and we’d watch shows together.

As a family, we are on the strict side of the shows that we watch. We only allow shows that are rooted in modesty and family. If I allow shows that allow cursing, disrespect, or inappropriate behavior, how do I explain to my kids that it is ok to watch and enjoy, but they aren’t allowed to act like that?

We watched Dick van Dyke, I Love Lucy, The Andy Griffith Show, and a little bit of Leave it to Beaver. When the Dick van Dyke show was over, I was so sad. I loved the time together with Julia and I wanted to find another wholesome show to watch together.

Scrolling through shows, I found a series called When Calls the Heart based on Janette Oke’s books. I read her growing up when I was about Julia’s age! I loved her books, so we gave the series a try. It was awesome! We loved every episode and can’t wait to see season 3 of the series! Constable Jack Thornton has to be one of the most respectable gentlemen on television. I love having a positive example of what friendship and courtship should look like. That seems so hard to find lately.

Lori Loughlin, from Full House fame, is also in the series. She hasn’t aged a day and brings a wonderful presence to the show.

This series has opened up wonderful discussions about careers and courtship, teaching and dating. I’m so thankful that we can still find family friendly shows to watch together.

    Love this series! It’s one of the few shows we DVR and watch as a couple.

    I have seen the series and I LOVE it! (Well, I loved the 1st season, the 2nd was disappointing.)

    No, I’ve never read the series. But I did get to meet Janette Oke one time many years ago at Northwestern College in St. Paul.

    I LOVE this series – it’s just based on the book- doesn’t follow it all- it’s setup to be the niece of the original teacher. 🙂
