Make these Easter Resurrection Rolls part of your family tradition.

I just love traditions that help your children understand bigger concepts in the church.

Here we are at Holy Week. One of the most beautiful weeks in the church. How do you explain that the tomb, with this huge stone and Roman guards covering it, is empty? How do you help them hide in their hearts the truth of the Resurrection.

Well, I love these rolls, but I have a secret for you.

I think they might be more for us than for the children. I had this big plan for showing Riley these rolls. A few years ago, I had him help me make them. He loved sneaking marshmallows as we popped them in the oven.

At Easter dinner, I put them out and expected light bulbs, oohs and aahs, compliments about my mothering, and at least five gold stars to appear. Instead, we opened them, Riley said, “well, they are empty” and started eating them.

No magical moment. No light from heaven. Everyone around the table giggled and I was a little disappointed.

But, fast forward two years to yesterday. Riley asked if we were going to make them this year so that we could teach Mary Alice about Jesus. (Cue my heart growing two sizes larger).

So dear moms, keep planting those seeds. You may not see the little buds growing, but it’s happening.

I think the first time I saw them was on my friend, Lesley’s blog. I knew I just had to try them with the kids!

Recipe

Ingredients:

• cinnamon and sugar
• melted butter
• marshmallows
• crescent rolls

Instructions:

• Dip the marshmallow in butter, roll it in the cinnamon sugar mixture and wrap it in a crescent roll.
• Bake according to the directions on the package. (A muffin tin works great to hold the shape. The first year, I didn’t use the muffin tin and the marshmallow escaped out the sides onto the cookie sheet.)
