I found this under a stack of papers the other day, as I was cleaning the piles up after the first week of school.
You know the drill… mountains of paperwork come home.
You are asked 54 times what your name is.
You are asked 87 times what emergency contact number should be used.
You are asked 32 times what your address is.
I sank down on the kitchen floor and read and reread the letter.
At first I giggled, because ~ Slash?
Momma, I promise we haven’t been listening to that hard rock stuff ’round here.
I smiled because her handwriting has grown so much over the years. It is so hard to believe that this is the same young lady that wanted to hold her pencil with her fist and wanted to write all her homework in blue crayon in kindergarten. And those block letters? I could never write block letters that well.
I sniffled because my heart is so warm thinking of the qualities she is choosing to admire ~ music, art, athletics, nursing and leadership.

This next month will be a lot of firsts for me.
My first time going to Craft Weekend, my first time going to Blog Sugar, my first time with 12 direct reports at work. Goodness gracious.
But, I think I will take some of Sweet Baby J’s advice, I will practice and practice and practice and one day ~ I just might shred like Slash, sew like Meg, cook like Ree and sing like Amy.
Have a wonderful day!
Kate

I absolutely Love This!!
Don’t worry about that hard rock stuff. She’s been watching Phineas and Ferb on Disney Channel 🙂
This is great!
wow…she is amazing young woman.
What an inspiration! Congratulations on all those big firsts. (By the way, shredding, sewing, cooking, and singing like *Kate* is just dandy in my opinion.) Especially the singing part; I’ve always been a sucker for your voice.
So very cool! I love the “Clara Barton didn’t just heal everyone the first time. . .”
This brought a tear to my eye. P.S. her handwriting looks a lot like her wonderful mama’s. 🙂
Brilliant! I love it.
It’s going to be a fun month of firsts next month!
Her list of inspiration is awesome.
Love how she wrote Elvis. 🙂
I love this. I’m going to use this as a starter for my classes Monday if it is ok with you and Baby J.
